Treatment for Oily Hair
July 9, 2009
Excess oil is not only bad for the skin, but it also makes your hair oily. The excess sebum secreted on the scalp, travels down the hair strand, making it oily. Compared to people with curled hair, people with straight hair experience greater problem of oiliness.
The sebum produced on the scalp rapidly moves down straight hairs, whereas the curls obstructs the passage of the sebum, making the hair dry, despite excess sebum secretion.
Oily hair remedy
Shampoo
Removing the excess oil from the scalp is the only treatment for oily hair. People with oily hair should apply shampoo frequently. It is recommended that before rinsing your hair, you should leave the shampoo on your scalp for about five minutes.
As the shampoo removes oil from your scalp and hair, it will hardly produce any suds. Only after the oil has been removed completely, will the shampoo form enough foam. People with oily hair need to apply shampoo repeatedly, until enough lather starts forming.
Always use shampoo recommended for oily hair. Oily hairs are naturally conditioned with the sebum of the hair. If you have oily hair, avoid using a conditioner to condition your hair.
Reduce combing frequency
Frequent combing or brushing activates the sebum glands, making them produce more oil. Combing also helps to transport the oil from the scalp to the end of the hair shaft, making the hair look oilier. To reduce oiliness of your hair, reduce the frequency of combing.
Home remedy to get rid of oily hair
Several home treatments are available for reducing the excess sebum secretion. Dilute one tablespoon of vinegar with equal amount of water and apply this solution all over your scalp. Leave it on your scalp for about 15 to 20 minutes. Now wash your scalp with clean water. To control excess oil, repeat this process frequently.
Lemon juice can also help to reduce sebum secretion. Take two tablespoons of lemon juice and mix it with one tablespoon of water. Apply this diluted lemon juice on your scalp. Leave it for 15 to 20 minutes on the scalp and wash your hair. Juice of nearly every citrus fruit can help to reduce the oiliness of your hair. Besides lemon juice, you can also apply juices of tomato or orange on your scalp.
