Treatment for Tooth Plaque
October 27, 2009
Tooth plaque is a film of bacteria that is colorless and sticky. These bacteria get accumulated on the teeth, gums, dentures etc. They may cause decaying of the tooth, periodontal problems, gum disease etc. It even results in bad smell in the mouth.
These plaques if left untreated get hardened in two days times and may grow also. After 12 days it becomes rock hard. Tartar which is a calcified material that consists of hardened plaque and bacterial debris helps the plaque to stick to the tooth easily and increases its size slowly. Usually plaque develops at the back of lower teeth. This gives an ugly look to the tooth.
Causes of Tooth Plaque
Gum inflammation, poor food choices, bad brushing technique, lack of professional care, heredity, lack of flossing habit, bleeding gum, demineralization of tooth etc are some of the causes for tooth plaque. Use of hard tooth brush, habit of chewing tobacco regularly, alcohol drinking, smoking etc increases your risk of getting this disease.
Home Remedies for Tooth Plaque
In order to maintain healthy teeth you have to follow regular dental check ups. Also try to avoid the habit of taking alcohol, tea coffee, acidic foods, sweets etc.
Brushing Technique
Brush your teeth daily in the morning and at night. While brushing hold your brush in 45 degree angle against your gum line and brush the teeth in circular motion covering one or two teeth at a time. Also brush the top and bottom of your corner teeth very well.
Baking Soda
Take a pinch of baking soda and gently brush your teeth with the baking soda. This will help you to check the growth of bacteria inside your mouth. You can also mix baking soda with equal parts of fine salt to brush your teeth.
Pomegranate
Pomegranate is found to be effective for treating the plaques in teeth. The fruits of pomegranate can remove the plaque causing bacteria.
Apply the juice obtained from strawberry on your teeth and rub it. Leave it for five minutes and then wash off with tepid water containing a little baking soda. Cranberry can also do the same for your teeth.
