Underarm Sweating


Perspiration is a natural thermoregulation mechanism of the body, which helps to cool the body. We sweat in hot weather conditions. The excess heat emitted by the body during intense physical activities also makes us perspire.

Although all parts of our body are prone to sweating, some areas are known to perspire excessively. The armpit is one such area, which is often the sweatiest part of the body. Sweating underarm can be a rather embarrassing problem. It produces ugly stains on dresses.

Reasons for underarm sweating
If you are wondering what causes excessive sweaty underarms that produces stains on your dress – here’s the answer. The sweat glands present in the armpits are known as apocrine glands. The sweat secreted by these glands contains fatty acids and proteins. These substances give the underarm sweat the yellowish color. Moreover, bacteria present on the surface of the underarm skin and on the armpit hair break down the fat and protein content of the sweat, producing the foul underarm odor.

Here are some treatment for reduce underarm sweating:

Proper hygiene
Regularly wash the armpits with soap and water. With a soft towel, pat the underarm dry. Do not rub the underarm vigorously. It would aggravate sweating.

Apply antiperspirant
When your armpit is completely dry, apply an antiperspirant. Antiperspirants reduce sweat secretion temporarily. Over-the-counter antiperspirants are usually effective in reducing underarm sweating. If you are prone to excessive armpit sweating, you can ask your physician to prescribe an antiperspirant containing aluminum chloride. Apple cider vinegar is a natural antiperspirant. Apply it in your armpit, and leave it for about 15 minutes. Then rinse the armpit with water.

Wear comfortable garments
To increase air circulation in your armpit, wear lightweight clothes. Avoid wearing tight fitted clothes. Wear clothes made of natural fibers. Synthetic fibers tend to trap excess body heat, worsening your underarm sweating.

Diet
Limit intake of caffeinated beverages and alcoholic drinks. They might increase sweating. Garlic, onions and hot peppers, though beneficial for your health, could increase your body temperature and contribute to unpleasant underarm odor. To keep your body cool, drink plenty of water.

Stress
You can sweat from excess stress. Stress management techniques could reduce perspiration. Practice deep breathing exercises and meditation to reduce stress.
