Urinary Bladder Cancer

Urinary Bladder is an internal organ situated in the lower abdomen and it collects the urine produced by your kidneys and stores this urine till it reaches its maximum storing capacity.
Bladder walls have the ability to stretch in order to store the urine and it can contract back to its position while expelling the urine through urethra which is a small tube. When the normal cells with in the bladder undergoes changes and they multiplies and grow with out any control then starts the bladder cancer.
Bladder cancer if not detected earlier may spread to lymph nodes and to other neighboring organs. It may even affect the liver, lungs, bones etc. There are different types of bladder cancer and they are. If you have blood in your urine and you have pain while urinating then you must be careful. Bladder cancer may also cause frequent urge for urination. It may also produce a low back pain.
Types of Bladder Cancer
Transitional Cell Carcinoma
This is the commonly seen bladder cancer and it accounts for 90% of the bladder cancer. Here the bladder wall’s inner most lining gets affected. The normal cells in the inner most layer of bladder wall undergoes changes and it multiplies drastically leading to transitional cell carcinoma. Transitional Cell Carcinoma is included under superficial bladder cancer as it is seen on the inner surface of the bladder and it won’t penetrate in to the muscular layers.
Squamous Cell Carcinoma
Constant bladder irritation or inflammation for many months or years leads to the formation of thin flat cells in the bladder. In Squamous Cell Carcinoma cancer develops in these cells. It accounts for 3 to 8 % of the bladder cancer. This is an invasive type bladder cancer as it penetrates in to the walls of the bladder.
Adenocarcinoma
There are glands in the bladder that produces fluids like mucus. When these glands are affected then it is called adenocarcinoma. It accounts for 1 to 2 % of the bladder cancer. This is also an invasive type bladder cancer. Invasive bladder cancer may spread easily to other internal organs and lymph nodes.
