Uses of Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil is extensively used for treating several minor ailments. This is an inedible essential oil, extracted from the leaves of the tea tree, a native plant of Australia. Tea tree oil should not be confused with tea oil.

Tea oil is extracted from the seeds of the tea plant, whose leaves we use to make the beverage tea.

The botanical name of tea tree is Melaleuca alternifolia. Tea tree oil is also known as melaleuca oil. Tea tree oil is an important herbal medicine of the indigenous people of Australia.

Cures respiratory ailments

Smelling tea tree oil helps to cure coughs and colds. The aroma of the tea tree oil can help to dissolve congestions in the lungs and sinus. Symptoms of bronchitis, asthma, whooping cough and sinusitis could be reduced by inhaling tea tree oil.

Skin disease remedy

The antiseptic property of tea tree oil is utilized for making skin ointments. Tea tree essential oil could help to heal acne. Blackheads and blemishes could be treated by applying tea tree oil on the effected areas. It can also be used as a disinfectant. Regular application of tea tree oil could keep your skin blemish and acne free. Tea tree oil can also prevent dandruff. Problems of both head and body lice could be treated with tea tree oil. Boils and carbuncles could be healed with tea tree oil.

Fights infection

Tea tree oil is equally effective in treating fungal infections, such as ringworm, athlete’s foot and Candida yeast infection. It can also be used for treating canker sores and genital warts.

Benefits for oral health

Tea tree oil is beneficial for your oral health. Rinsing your mouth with tea tree oil diluted with water, could prevent gum problems. It can also prevent plague formation. Its strong antibiotic property kills the bad bacteria present in the mouth. Tea tree oil is used as a remedy for bad breath.

Tea tree oil should be avoided by pregnant and lactating women. Consumption of undiluted tea tree oil can be hazardous for the body. To prevent any adverse effect of tea tree oil, dilute tea tree oil with any other base oil or water.
