Waiting Hand and Foot in Winter
November 11, 2008
We all find the hands and feet beginning to dry up and appear scaly as the cold approaches. The feet begin to wear faster, and they start to form cracks. The hands become rough and appear aged. Special care for the hands and feet in winter is critical. No only in helping them look better, but also to keep rapid growth of dead skin check.
A simple skin care routine made in the house can help work wonders in keeping the hands and feet comfortable. It requires few ingredients, and can be administered easily.
Start by using either almond oil or pure coconut oil and warm it lightly befoer applying on the hands and feet. Take some tissue and wipe away any sticky residue from the hands and feet before proceeding.
Take the juice of two tomatoes and apply over the hands and feet. Mix some coarsely ground dates into the remaining tomato juice and use as an exfoliator, removing all traces of dead cells from the hands and feet. Wipe off with a hand towel soaked in warm water.
Then take some plain date juice and apply well on the hands and feet. Massage well using rotary moevements to improve circulation and also ease tired points. Wipe off with warm water after about twenty minutes of massaging.
Take a mixture of calamine powder and curd, and make a pack with the same. Apply on the feet and hands generously and leave on for half an hour before washing off. Finish by applying moisturising cream or milk, which should be left on for twenty minutes.
If you have any pigmentaion or marks on the hands and feet, make sure you apply some calamine, which can help reduce them.
Use proper footwear at all times during the winter. Do not leave the feet exposed for long durations as they tend to get affected faster.
Before retiring, try and apply some paraffin based products to the hands and put on some cotton gloves. Leave them on for about half an hour before removing the gloves, and sponging excess using a tissue. This will keep the skin more supple and hydrated.
