June 23, 2009

Causes of Breast Cancer

Breast cancer is the proliferation of cells inside the breast and it may change the consistency of the tissues or may form lumps inside the breast. This is mostly seen in women above 35 years old and it may affect a woman at any stage of her life. Many reasons lead to the development of breast caner.

Reasons for Breast Cancer

1. Gender

One of the reasons for breast cancer is gender. 90 percentage of the cancer deaths in women are caused by breast cancer while it causes only 1 percentage death in men.

2. Age

Age is another factor that increases the risk of getting breast cancer. The chances of getting breast cancer for a woman at her thirties increases when she reaches 40 and further more at her fifties and so on.

3. Genetic

A past history of breast cancer in any of the family members will increase your chances for getting it. If the paternal or maternal relatives had cancer then it may carry the genes responsible for causing breast cancer to the next generation and a woman having this gene will have 85% chance for developing breast cancer.

4. Previous History

Any person who had cancer in her life is prone to develop another cancer later in her life. Breast cancer or ovarian cancer that hits before menopause may increase your risk for getting another breast cancer in later stage. Those who had undergone radiation treatments are prone to develop breast cancer.

5. Early  Menstruation and Hormonal Changes

Girls who have their menstruation before the age of twelve will be subjected to more menstrual cycles and thus for more hormonal changes. Such girls are at greater risk factors of getting this disease. Similarly those who have kids after 30 years or having no kids are also subjected more hormonal changes. Those who have never breast feed and who underwent hormonal treatments or uses hormonal contraceptives are also likely to get breast cancer.

6. Diet

Women who had a diet consisting of lot of fats are at more risk. Consumption of alcohol and alcoholic products will also increase the chances for getting breast cancer. Obese women and women with heavy breast are also at risk of getting this disease. Similarly the dense breast tissues that have more glandular tissues rather than fatty tissues may get breast cancer easily.

7. High Insulin

If the insulin production in the body is high then it may cause the development of breast cancer.
