What’s a Heart Healthy Diet?

A healthy heart is associated with healthy food habits. The cholesterol level and blood pressure of your body is associated with the food you take and high blood cholesterol and blood pressure may affect your heart negatively. So you must be aware of the food that you can have for maintaining good heart health. The following tips may help you to have a heart healthy diet.

Heart Healthy Diet

Fat

Of the total calories required for a day you have to limit your total fat intake to 30 percent. In the 30 % of fat consumed per day 7 % can be saturated fatty acid, another 10 percent can be polyunsaturated fatty acid and the remaining 15 percent accounts the mono unsaturated fatty acid.

Cholesterol

You have to limit your dietary cholesterol to less than 300 milligram per day. If you are having high blood cholesterol then limit your cholesterol intake to 200 milligram per day. Cholesterol may create blocks in the artery and cause heart problems.

Fiber

You must be careful to include a minimum of 30 grams of fiber in your diet daily. The most preferred form for fibers are fruits, whole grains, vegetables, legumes etc.

Sodium

Be careful to limit your sodium intake to 2300 milligram per day as sodium may increase your blood pressure. Increased blood pressure may adversely affect your heart health. If you have high blood pressure then you have to control your sodium intake with 1500 milligram per day.

For maintaining a healthy heart, try to limit your alcohol and caffeine consumption. While choosing your food pick the non fat or low fat dairy products, lean meat, poultry etc as it helps you to control your dietary limits. Also practice regular exercise for about 30 to 60 minutes a day. While dieting makes sure that you take the calories that are necessary for you.

This is because poor diet may cause diabetes and obesity which in turn are found to be risky for heart health. So try to have a balanced diet that can supply you all the vitamins, minerals, carbohydrates, fibers and fat necessary for your health.
