Blood Pressure And Vegetarian Diet

It is been proved that vegetarian diet and blood pressure are directly proportional.  Modern medicine states that with medication one must maintain good food practices to control blood pressure level. On inclusion of many food items rich in fibres and minerals itself is a treatment against illness.

Another study proves that protein requirement of the body cannot be met with vegetarian diet is a myth and vegetarians are found to be more immune.

In order to control blood pressure, include a lot of vegetables of varied colours in the diet and reduce the use of saturated fats. Calcium, fibre, magnesium, potassium, vitamin C etc has the capacity to reduce BP. Vegetables that are a must in diet are tomato, potato, carrot, peas, cauliflower, cabbage, spinach and sweet potato.

Fibres are essential for our body as these helps in smooth bowel movements and reducing BP. There are mainly three types of fibres, cellulose, hemicelluloses and mucilage, which can be categorised into water soluble and insoluble. Leafy vegetables and fruits are rich in fibre contents.

Fruits are full with potassium. Including potassium in diet is equal to reducing sodium in the body. To cite an example if you get 2000mg of potassium daily through food then your BP could be reduced by five points in five weeks.

Vitamin C gives resistance to body. If the Vitamin C intake reduces it will induce blood pressure. A person needs at least 60 mg of vitamin C a day. Fruits like orange, bitter guard, green chillies, guava and papaya are rich source of this life-saving vitamin.

Allicin in garlic has the power to expand heart valves, which in turn helps in reducing blood pressure. Lycopene in tomatoes too can prevent BP. So include garlic and tomato in your dishes or eat them uncooked. The betakaroten, and Vitamin B complexes in brocoli is proved to be a touch defender again heart attacks.

It can even prevent cancer and other heart ailments. Intake of 250 ml beetroot juice could also prevent and control all heart-related diseases.  Apart from these vegetables and fruits onion, celery etc can also prevent cardio-vascular diseases.
