Heat Therapy: An Alternative Treatment

Heat and warmth have been identified as sources of healing since centuries. The effectiveness of heat generated through water and steam to treat physical ailments and soothe body has long been proven.

The hot bath present in earlier centuries
has been replaced with sauna or steam bath in present times. A number of problems like arthritis, skin problems and other respiratory conditions can be treated with warm water without facing the threat of side effects.

The benefits of heat therapy are far and many. It is inexpensive and convenient. A hot bath can be taken to de-stress the body and ease discomfort. Heat pads or wraps can be used to relive body ache and are convenient to use as they can be used anytime and anywhere. Heat therapy is an alternative method of treatment and therefore does not pose any harmful effects unlike pharmaceutical drugs.

Heat therapy does wonders for relieving body ache by stimulating blood circulation and easing the tension in the muscles. The conditions of back pain, arthritis, rheumatism and other musculoskeletal problems can be treated to a great extent through heat.

Heat aids the process of repairing of damaged tissues and relieves the stiffness in muscles or muscle spasms. At the same time it promotes flexibility in the muscles. Chronic pains and conditions can also be mitigated through heat therapy.

Problems of the nervous system like Sciatica can also be dealt with through heat therapy. Heat soothes and calms the nerves and is quite effective in de-stressing the mind. Respiratory problems like asthma are treated using heat therapy combined with radiation therapy.  Some skin problems treated using exposure to sunlight and heat and the results are overwhelming.

Though heat therapy is quite effective and beneficial, yet it has its disadvantages too. While giving heat therapy, certain precautions must be taken.

The intensity of the heat is to be regulated
from time to time to prevent any damage due to excess of heat. Its use on young kids and elderly should be made with great precaution. Moreover pregnant women should be careful while taking heat therapy to prevent any mishap.
