Pimples are a reality of life. Everyone has to grapple with this problem sometime or other. It is as common a problem as the common cold itself. Well, if it so common then why is it so embarrassing? Pimples are genuinely embarrassing because they completely ruin the beauty of your face. Even a single pimple can make your beautiful skin less glowing. What should one do when plagued by pimples?
It is very easy to panic when you get suddenly attacked by the demon of pimple. But remaining calm and patient would help you get rid of the problem from the very roots. Do not get tempted to run to the nearest departmental store and by that new spot application cream claiming to zap pimples overnight. Most of them have Retin-A in it.
Even though Retin A does work initially, it leaves your face sore and dermatitis infected with long term use (sometimes even with short term use). Other popular acne medications like benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid come with their own host of side effects. You may ask now then what should one do? The best way to deal with pimples is by treating it naturally. Wondering if that would work? It would actually work better than any medication or cosmetic. Moreover, it would give you all the benefits without causing any side effects.
Our diet and lifestyle are the two most important factors behind the health of our skin. According to Ayurveda, any kind of eruption or inflammation on the surface of the skin is a sign of aggravated pitta. An aggravated pitta is a manifestation of excessive heat within the body. Pimples are often caused by the intake or processed and junk food. Stay away from food items that are heating in nature. For eg.- tomatoes, garlic, aubergines, orange, all sour fruits, cheese, yoghurt, chicken etc. On the other hand increase the intake of food items that have cooling properties like sweet fruits, milk, mung beans, spinach, carrots, broccoli, squashes, watercress etc.
The aggravated pitta leads to increased toxin production within the body. These toxins lead to impurities in the blood. Hence, it is very important to have something that renders blood purification benefits. The best blood purifier in nature is margosa or neem. If you have access to a neem tree then make it a habit to chew some fresh leaves every morning on an empty stomach. It may not be able to have direct access to a neem tree if you do not live in India. In that case, you can opt for neem powder.
You can have it directly with some water or boil the powder in a cup of water and then strain to drink like a tea. At the same time, you should increase the intake of other bitter food items like bitter gourd. Anything that is bitter helps purify the blood. Another excellent item for blood purification and skin beautification is aloe vera. The pulp of aloe vera is not only good for internal intake but also for external application.
The next most important thing for ensuring pimple free beautiful skin is good skin care. Make sure that your skin absolutely clean at all times. This would protect against the growth of pimple casing bacteria. Keeping your towels and other personal care items immaculately clean is also very important. Improper hygiene can lead to cross infection, thereby, further aggravating your problem.
How you clean your skin and the products you use for the same are also very crucial. The best cleanser for keeping your skin squeaky clean and cent per cent acne free can be prepared at home by taking products from your kitchen shelf. To make your own cleanser take some gram flour, fullers’ earth, orange peel powder, clove powder, rose petal powder and mix in rose water or raw milk to form a thick paste. Apply it to your damp skin and massage gently. Wash off and pat dry. It would leave your skin tightened, refreshed and of course, squeaky clean.
In case of a terrible pimple attack, you can take some orange peel powder, crushed strawberry leaves, a few drops of lime juice and rose water. Mix all of them together to form a thick paste. Apply it evenly to your face and neck (or other infected areas). Keep till it dries off completely. Wash off with plain water first and then wash with triphala water (prepared by boiling and straining two teaspoons of triphala powder, which is easily available in Ayurvedic pharmacies, in 4 cups of water). This treatment would not only help zap all your pimples but would also render a healthy glow to your skin.
You can also take some sea salt and mix it with hot (not warm) water to form a concentrated liquid. Now, dip a cotton swab in this and apply directly to all the pimples. But do not make the mistake of applying it to your entire face. This treatment is strictly for spot application. The salt would help dry up the pimples, ultimately making them vanish.
Applying a neem skin toner would also deliver miraculous results in this problem. To prepare the toner boil some fresh neem leaves and triphala powder together. Wait for the quantity to reduce to half and then strain and allow it to cool. Thereafter, add a few drops of tea tree and lavender essential oils respectively. Dip a cotton ball and apply the toner to your face 3-4 times a day. It would tone, refresh and hydrate your skin while also treating the pimples.
A weekly aspirin scrub would also be very helpful for you. Simply take some aspirin and mix in milk or water to a pasty consistency. Apply on your face and neck like a mask and keep for about 5-10 minutes (in any situation, do not exceed 15 minutes). Aspirin contain BHA (beta hydroxyl acid) which helps in exfoliating skin and unclogging pores. Now, that you have gained the knowledge to fight your pimples naturally, go ahead and try these. Soon you would be showered with compliments on your flawless skin. But just remember perseverance and discipline is key here.
