Hypertension, commonly known as high blood pressure, can prove to be quite harmful. The increasing mental and physical stress and polluted environment are triggers of hypertension. It is the disease of the new age which acts as a silent killer.
Symptoms of Hypertension
Pain in the back of the head and neck, while waking up in the morning, is considered as a symptom of hypertension. However the pain disappears as the day progresses. Other symptoms of high blood pressure are dizziness and palpitations, pain in chest, fatigue and exhaustion, rapid breathing, nervous tension and frequent urge to urinate.
Causes of Hypertension
Stress and unhealthy lifestyle contributes most to the problem of high blood pressure. Excessive intake of nicotine or caffeine i.e. tea, coffee, cigarettes, etc disturb the natural pace of life. They adversely affect the discharge of toxics and wastes from the body. When toxics and waste material collates, it causes blockage in arteries, obesity and diabetes which further contribute to increasing blood pressure. Consuming excessive amounts of salt and high fat diet is another factor responsible for hypertension.
Home remedies for Hypertension
Garlic lowers the blood pressure and reduces the spasms of the small arteries. It alters the heart rhythm by slowing down the pulse rate and relieves the feeling of dizziness and numbness. It controls gastric problems and cures shortening of breaths. 1-2 cloves of garlic can be consumed daily.
Lemon and Grapefruit are a rich source of vitamin P and prevent capillary fragility and reduce high blood pressure. Watermelon seeds are used to extract a substance which dilates blood vessels and lowers the blood pressure. It can be taken in liberal quantities.
Rice has low-fat and low-salt content. People advised with salt restrictive diets can consume rice which relaxes the nervous system. Potato can be boiled without peeling the skin and consumed by patients for a salt-free diet. The magnesium content present in potatoes lowers the blood pressure.
Parsley maintains the capillaries and the arterial system and is highly useful in hypertension. It can be consumed as a beverage by adding 20 gm fresh parsley leaves to 250 ml of simmering water for few minutes.
Vegetable juice of carrot and spinach if consumed daily, either separately or in combination is the best remedy for hypertension. It can be taken by adding 300 ml of carrot juice to 200 ml of spinach juice. Fruits containing potassium are also a good remedy for checking high blood pressure.
