And since water is the most important component of tears, it is necessary to drink plenty of water each day to flush out the toxins from your body and also to keep your eyes as well as the entire body well hydrated. People with dry eyes syndrome should drink at least 10 to 12 glasses of water per day.

You also need sufficient amount of Omega-3 fatty acids to protect your eyes from the dry eyes syndrome. In fact, Omega-3 fatty acids are indispensable for the good health of your eyes. Some great sources of Omega-3 are oily fishes such as tuna, salmon, trout, albacore, mackerel and sardines.

And if you are a vegetarian then you can get Omega-3 from flaxseeds, canola, walnuts and soybeans. In case you are unable to get the recommended amount of Omega-3 then a supplement can be taken to prevent dry eyes syndrome.

Consuming foods rich in Vitamin A is also necessary in order to prevent the dry eye syndrome. Some excellent sources of Vitamin A are carrots, kale, broccoli, spinach, collard greens, cantaloupes and eggs.

Adequate amount of Vitamin A helps in improving the mucin layer (inner layer) of the eyes. Foods that are rich in Vitamin C should also be consumed for the prevention of dry eyes syndrome.
