Stroke is a severe health disorder associated with abnormal functioning of the brain due to insufficient supply of blood to the brain. Stroke, which is also called as cerebrovascular accident (CVA), may lead to life threatening diseases like diabetes and heart attack.

Types Of Strokes

Most of the sufferers of stroke are diagnosed with Ischemic stroke, which occurs as a result of blockage in the blood vessel. Blood clotting is the major factor responsible for this blockage.
Blood clotting occurs due to excessive accumulation of cholesterol and fat in the blood vessels, consequently inhibiting the supply of blood to the brain. Due to insufficient supply of oxygen and nutrients to the brain, the cells of brain stop functioning appropriately, thus causing stroke.
This type of stroke is associated with a burst of blood vessels in the brain, subsequently resulting in bleeding. Such a condition often arises in case of patients suffering from high blood pressure. Hemorrhagic stroke may also occur due to rupturing of deformed blood vessels.
In few cases, there is a build-up of protein amyloid within the arteries, which leads to hemorrhagic stroke. Such a case is often seen among older people.
Though both the types of strokes are different from each other, however, the risk factors associated with both of them are similar. People suffering from any type of stroke, viz. hemorrhagic stroke or ischemic stroke, are at the risk of being affected by diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure and heart attack at some point of time in life.
Smoking, alcohol consumption, obesity, unhealthy diet and irregular exercise are the major factors responsible for occurrence of stroke. With the help of following a healthy diet consisting of green vegetables, fruits, milk and yogurt, the risk of being affected by obesity would be reduced to a great extent.
All kinds of junk foods, sugar-rich foods and processed foods should be excluded from the diet, as per the healthy diet plan. This would help in maintaining optimum blood sugar level, and would prevent the cholesterol level from going up.
The intake of sodium in the diet should also be reduced to keep the blood pressure under control. Further, it is very important to do regular exercise, so that there is proper blood circulation in the entire body, consequently guarding against the risk of being affected by stroke.
Last but not the least, bad lifestyle habits like tobacco smoking and alcohol consumption should be eliminated from the diet to remain in good health, and guard against occurrence of stroke.
