Causes of Bursitis

Bursitis is a type of joint injury commonly experienced by sports people. People who indulge in hazardous activities repetitively as a part of their occupation get affected by bursitis. Bursitis is caused by inflammation or damage of bursa, a sac filled with fluids. Bursa is mostly found in joints and acts as a cushion between the bones and muscles protecting the soft tissues such as muscle, tendons, ligaments and skin during the frictions. Some times bursa is damaged or inflamed due to repetitive bone frictions. Bursa occurs mainly on shoulders, elbows, knees, hip, heel, ankles or toe. As bursitis is basically connected with physical hardworking, any one who indulges in heavy or repetitive work experience bursitis.

Though the majority of people affected by bursitis are elderly, bursitis can affect any person irrespective of their age groups. The problem is it reappears regularly. Bursitis is known in some funny nicknames such as Clergymen’s Knee, Housemaid’s Knee and Baker’s Cyst. However, bursitis is to be taken serious and people need to take remedies immediately when it is noticed.

Experiencing pain in joints when you do not have arthritis is the main symptom of bursitis. The paining location can appear dull or hard with stiffness. Experiencing acute pain during movements can also be a symptom for bursitis. There are several causes that lead to bursitis and the most common among them are rheumatoid arthritis, joint injury, joint overuse, joint infection, obesity, etc.

Home Remedies for Bursitis

There are various home remedies for bursitis that can be effective in curing as well as preventing bursitis. Normally, bursitis appears when hard and repetitive activities are undertaken and it disappears on its own when the work is stopped or rested. When bursitis is experienced on feet changing the shoe can solve the problem. Improper fitting of shoes often cause bursitis. Ice is one of the proven home remedies for bursitis.

Apply ice pack on the place where Bursitis appear, as it can bring down the swelling. Repeat this 2 to 4 times in a day until the swelling is completed deflated. While applying ice pack keep a towel between your skin and ice pack to protect the skins from direct exposure to ice. Keeping your legs or other bursitis affected places above heat level can reduce the swelling quickly. It takes 3 to 4 days to bring down the swelling to normal. Once the swelling has disappeared use a heating pad on the bursitis affected place to eliminate the excess fluid. This not only relieves the pain but also regulate the fluid circulation.

Potato is considered to be a good home remedy for bursitis. Take two teaspoons of grated potato soak in a cup of water overnight. Drink the water in the morning in empty stomach. Repeat this process for next one week; you will get relieved from bursitis. Vitamins always play a significant role in any ailment, and vitamin B12 helps in reducing the bursitis swelling. Having food that is abundantly rich in magnesium is a great remedy for bursitis, for instance, leafy vegetables.

Drinking a combination of honey and apple cider vinegar is also very helpful in reducing bursitis. Cayenne pepper in combination with apple cider vinegar can also be used for external application. Rubbing warm olive oil on the skin is effective and is one of the ancient home remedies for bursitis. This relieves the pain and also prohibits the recurrence of bursitis. Sea water can be taken as a health drink for people suffering from bursitis only. If they are undergoing treatments for blood pressure, they should strictly keep away from sea water as the salt in the sea water may turn to be harmful for blood pressure patients. Lavender oil added to bath water relieves pain. Sandalwood paste is prominent for its soothing features and is also an essential home remedies for bursitis.

People suffering from bursitis should practice gentle yoga stretching exercises and carry on with home remedies that will yield them complete cure and stop recurring.
