Home Remedies for Intestinal Worms

Get Rid of Intestinal Worms

Since children play a lot it is hard to notice whether they are playing with something clean or not, they tend to ingest worms often and thus they need periodic deworming. However, adults too can acquire them although not as much prone to the condition as children are. And, even though infestation happens in all parts of the globe, worms are more prevalent in tropical countries and during rainy seasons. Food and water are the most common agents of these parasites. Their eggs are brought inside the victims’ bodies when they eat and drink unclean food.

Symptoms of Intestinal Worms

Different kinds of worms show different symptoms. Threadworms, for example, induce severe itching in the region of the rectum. Constipation and diarrhea may show up in alternating sessions leading to weight loss, fever, and cough. For hookworms, the patient may experience anemia and other nutrition-related disorders. Roundworms, on the other hand, may bring on weight loss and lung and intestine inflammation. Other effects include irritability, nervousness, fever, nausea, and vomiting.

In general, people infested with intestinal worms experience headache and are anemic. They tend to become restless during sleep and they get dark circles surrounding their eyes. Their breath may also stink. All the food they eat gets wasted because of diarrhea. But, they would still constantly want to eat.

What Causes Worm Infestation

  1. Handling food and drinks with unclean hands and dirty fingers is one of the causes why threadworms can enter the body. Roundworms get inside the body through contaminated foods and drinks. Tapeworms, on the other hand, enter the body through raw or half-cooked meats and also through the feces of dogs that may also have tapeworms.

  2. When one walks bare foot, it increases the chance for the person to acquire worms. Hookworms, for example, enter the body when one walks bare foot on an infected land.

  3. Unhygienic living condition is the most obvious cause of infestation. If one lives uncleanly and does not practice proper hygiene then worms can easily enter his body not only through the food and water he takes in but also through moving about his filthy surroundings. Once the worms are inside the intestines and they find that the intestinal tract is filled with a comfortable survival zone, then they will stay and propagate in the intestinal tract.

Home Remedies for Intestinal Worms

Coconut – Coconut has been used since the olden time as home remedies for intestinal worms. Drink one tablespoon of newly ground coconut during breakfast. Then, have the patient drink a mixture of 30-60 mL castor oil and 250-375 mL of lukewarm milk three hours after taking the coconut oil. Repeat this procedure until all worms have been expelled from the body.

Garlic – Another ancient intestinal worms home remedies, used by the Babylonians, Indians, Romans, Greeks and Chinese is garlic. It was found effective and thus still used even in the modern times. The garlic itself and its oil can be used in ridding the body of these pests. In the olden days, they place a few cloves of garlic in each shoe. When the people from the olden days walk, the pressure from their feet will crush the garlic. The juice from the crushed garlic has worm killing action. It penetrates the flesh of the feet and is carried to the intestines through the blood. For those who dislike the taste of garlic can try this method. However, if you can tolerate its taste, every morning chew three cloves.

Carrot – This vegetable is an effective home remedies for intestinal worms, particularly threadworms. Every morning, eat a small portion (a small cup would do) of grated carrots. Do not put in any additions to the meal. This will clear your digestive tract in no time. This is one of the useful natural remedy for intestinal worms.

Papaya – The milky substance in an unripe papaya is called “papain.” Papain is an effective home remedy for intestinal worms particularly killing roundworms in the digestive tract. For adults, mix one tablespoon of honey, one tablespoon of unripe papaya juice and 3-4 tablespoons of hot water then ingest. For best treatment, repeat this procedure of 2 days. For kids 7 to 10 years of age, give half of the dosage above. For kids not more than 3 years old, on the other hand, one tablespoon is enough. Not only the juice but the papaya seeds are also effective for this purpose because the seeds have “caricin,” another affective deworming substance. First, pulverize the seeds. Then, drink one teaspoon of the powder mixed in one cup of water or milk in the morning. Drink it before eating breakfast. If the seeds can do it, so are the leaves. Papaya leaves have “carpaine” that can destroy these parasites. Make an infusion by pouring 250 mL of boiled water on a 15 gm dry papaya leaves. If one wishes, add honey to taste.

Pomegranate – Pomegranate can kill parasite due to its anathematic properties. The pomegranate tree’s bark (from the stems and the roots) has this substance. The bark from root is better than the ones on the stem because the root has more punicine, an alkaloid very poisonous for tapeworms. Decoct the bark, if possible fresh bark. Then, for adult patients, have them drink 90-180 mL three times, with one hour interval time. Subsequent to the last dose, a purgative should be administered. For children, give them 30-60 mL as intestinal worms treatment. This recipe is great in driving out tapeworms.

Pumpkin – Pumpkin seeds are very effective in ridding the body of intestinal worms, especially tape worms. Skin then crush one tablespoon of pumpkin seed. Then, pour 250 mL boiling water over it. Have the patient drink the solution. Note: Before making the patient drink the solution, it is necessary for the patient to fast and empty his intestines for a day. To purge him have him drink prune juice. Then, administer the pumpkin juice the following day. Give the patient around 3-4 tumblers of the juice. This is one of the effective diet for intestinal worms.

Wormwood - This herb has been going around since the ancient times. It is very effective in banishing intestinal worms and was greatly used by the Romans and Greeks in the past. In India ’s Tibbi (Unani) of medicine system, the flowering portion of wormwood had been, and still is, used as a drug to kill intestinal worms. For tapeworms and roundworms, they are frequently pulverized first and administered in amounts of 8-16 grams daily. Another part of this plant that is effective in destroying worms is it oil. Mixed wormwood oil with olive oil, the latter being eight times the weight of the former then administer the solution in quantities of 50-100 mL. One can also make an infusion by adding 2 mL wormwood oil to 120 mL of water. Administer as an enema to destroy the pests in the rectum. This is one of the effective intestinal worms treatment.

Belleric Myroblan - This herb possess great anthelmintic properties. When mixed with the butea (palas) seeds on a 50:50 ratio, it can get rid of all intestinal worms, especially tapeworms and roundworms. Have the patient drink one teaspoon three times a day. It helps. However, butea seeds can also be given alone and can produce the same effect. One teaspoon of powdered seeds may be given may be given. Or, one can turn it into paste with the addition of one teaspoon of honey. Administer three times a day. This is a good intestinal worms remedy.

Vasaka – Almost all the parts of the vasaka tree can be used as a deworming agent (i.e., flowers, leaves, rout-bark, bark, and fruit). To make a decoction, take 30 gm of bark and root and boil them in 500 ml of water until only one-third of the liquid remains. Administer the decoction in amounts of 30 mL 2-3 times a day for the period of 2-3 days. Juice from vasaka’s fresh leaves can also be administered in one teaspoon three times a day for around three days. This is one of the useful home remedies for intestinal worms.

Calamus – This herb has a bitter element called “acorin” which is a great anthelmintic agent. This is one of the best intestinal worms cure.

Diet for intestinal worms

  1. During the treatment, the patient should be given fresh fruits alone for a period of 4-5 days.

  2. Eat a light, well-balanced meal. Choose mainly vegetables, fruits, whole-wheat bread and milk.

  3. Do not feed the patient with foods rich in oil, cream, or butter. Fatty foods are all out of the question.

  4. The patient may need to go back to an all-fruit diet from time to time. When the symptoms of intestinal worms recur, give the patient uncooked vegetable and lots of fruits juices.

Intestinal Worms Treatment

Aside from fasting and the all-fruit diet, have the patient undergo a warm water enema so that his bowels will be cleansed.

What one should remember to avoid intestinal worms is to incorporate proper hygiene in their lifestyle. Living cleans means lesser opportunities for worms to enter our bodies. Do what you always tell little kids to do – wash your hands before you eat. Remember that by washing your hands you’ll save yourself the pains of having pets in your intestines. Also, avoid buying food in stores where their hygienic practices are doubtful and questionable. Always were shoes or slip-ons as well. Avoid walking bare foot. But in any case, if you still acquired the pests, try our solutions above. You can find most of them in your homes anyway.
