Does your foot ache after several hours of shopping? Do you feel severe pain on the base of your heel after you went jogging? Watch out! You may have plantar fasciitis. Plantar fasciitis is a condition that occurs when your plantar fascia, long, thick, fibrous connective tissues that span from the bone of the heel to the toes, becomes inflamed. People prone to this condition either have obesity, are pregnant or are diabetic.

Symptoms and Causes of Plantar Fascia

If your foot hurts and the sharp pain centers on the base of the heel, then it might be that you have plantar fasciitis. This pain may be felt growing over time or it may also be felt suddenly. The symptom may be worse in the morning when you rouse from sleep and try to get on your feet. Then, when exercising or standing for long periods of time, the pain may grow severe. And for some people, plantar fasciitis may be followed by rapid weight gain. The most common victims of this condition are those in adults particularly those in middle age but it can happen to anyone at any age.

Plantar fasciitis happens because of repeatedly putting on excess weight thus straining the plantar fascia too much. The tissues that connect the plantar fascia to the heel bone become overstretched and tears. Watch out for the shoes you buy because shoes that do not cushion the heel very well can also cause plantar fasciitis.

Other peculiarities such as flat feet, high arches, and pronation, as well as wearing of high heeled shoes, may become the source of plantar fasciitis. Foot, leg and other traumatic injuries can lead to plantar fasciitis.

Old people may also have plantar fasciitis due to the wearing away of the plantar fascia over time. Another cause of this condition may be due to the structure of the foot of the patient. If there is some sort of structural imbalance on it, then one may attribute the cause to this abnormality.
