Home Remedies for Sleep Apnea

If you are unfamiliar with the term “apnea”, it means without breath. In all actuality, sleep apnea is a disorder that is characterized by pausing or stopping breath during sleep. Sleep apnea is not a mild sleep disorder; it is to be taken seriously because when there are longer pauses between the breaths taken, it could lead to fatal consequences. Each time that there is a pause in breathing it spans from ten to twenty seconds or even more but there could be times that these pauses take place twenty to thirty times within an hour.

Sleep Apnea takes place due to adequate air being unable to flow into the lungs through the nose or mouth as you try to breathe regularly which creates a problem in the breathing activity. Most of the time normal breathing will resume with a choking sound or a sudden snort however you should know that the oxygen levels drop each time that there is a pause in the breathing. There are two classified types of sleep apnea, first you have obstructive and then you have central. Central sleep apnea refers to a lack of effort in breathing on a regular basis while on the other hand; obstructive sleep apnea refers to a physical block in the regular breathing patterns despite effort.

If there is ever a time that sleep apnea is left untreated, it can lead to stroke, hypertension, heart failure, irregular heart beat and heart attack.

Sleep on a narrow sofa, which forces you to remain on your side. Sleep on a hardwood floor (who can get comfortable there?) . Discomfort may seem cruel but the discomfort is just enough to get you to change position on your own (much like the tennis ball).
I started sleeping in a straight back chair after several back surgeries. I noticed that I slept better because my back pain was alleviated and my airway remained open. However, it's not a good solution for a marriage.

my sister has a very low CD4 count 80 and she is having problems to sleep, sometimes behaving insanely, walking naked, laughing, crying and that sort of thing, how can you help her

To relieve sleeplessness, suffers might consider going to a sleep clinic and use of a Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) machine. Takes some time to get used to but it does work - slept for 6 continuous hours - a record.

I found that sleeping on the floor reduces sleep apnea a lot for me and although not as comfortable as my bed I sleep better because I wake up less.
i think sleeping on the floor is helping because it stops me sleeping in the same position all night and in particular on my back and stomach.Hope this will help others

you guys are pampered and take life too much for granted. Don't live a superficial life.

Throw away your pampered life and live a very humble way of life. Don't take for granted, what nature gives you. because that's the permanent and cure for all the problems of every form of life. Embrace the nature.

Imagine how a stone aged human would have survived in hardship. Consider the modern luxuries as privileage. All you require is a place to sleep in warmth where you will not meet death till the sun rise. Though that's may seem like theory, relate yourself and your situation to it. Think what you are really missing to even eat three times a day and sleep peacefully 7 hours a day. I guess nothing stops you from doing that, right?

Just go and keep living as long as nature takes life away from you!

shanmu, r u on crack or something? What r u even talking about. These ppl can't sleep, what does that have to do with the stone aged human? Stone aged humans also couldn't make odd remarks on their PCs on a msg board that have absolutely nothing to do with the topic. Chew on that awhile.

I use a Swift LT for Her with my cpap. It's a less cumbersome kind of setup that uses nasal pillows. I love it. I usually do better if I am in a bed with a headboard, so I can toss the extra hose over it.

Have tried the CPAP, with nasal pillows and the hybrid with pillows and mouth mask. The pillows dont work if your congested. I would pull the hybrid mask off in my sleep without realizing. P.S. Dont be so hard on Shanmu, you wouldnt make fun of the kids on the short school bus would you?

I think what shanmu is saying is Sleep Apnea is a modern disease, like Chronic Fatigue Syndrome- it's the byproduct of our non-natural lifestyles. This is true at least in one way: many sufferers are overweight. weight problems probably did not plague the caveman. No burger joints unless you count what might have been done with a buffalo carc[@] after the good cuts were used up.

However, sometimes it's due to structural obstructions- that has nothing to do with your lifestyle.

I'm pretty sure my sleep apnea is because of my weight, and that is going to be my approach. That, and side sleeping.
