Home Remedies for Stomach Disorders

Right from childhood, human beings are subject to several stomach disorders. This is because the stomach is a very vital organ in the digestive system, and every day several times the stomach has to cope up with the different varieties of food that we ingest into our bodies. Not only that, the stomach has to process the food and 'digest' it, which means it has to break down the complex substances we eat into simple soluble substances, which can be assimilated into the bloodstream.

No wonder then, that the stomach is continually infested with several problems. Some of the very common stomach problems we face in our daily routines are stomach aches, cramps, nausea and vomiting, heaviness in the stomach, heartburn, etc.

Stomach disorders generally occur due to the foods that we eat. If the food is incompatible with the stomach, or if the stomach itself is unable to properly digest the food, then stomach problems are caused. Also, if there is an infestation of parasites in the stomach, there can be severe stomach aches. Sometimes, stomach problems are caused due to environmental factors such as unsuitable climate, unhygienic conditions, etc. Even vices of smoking, alcoholism and binging on heavy food quite often can cause severe stomach problems.

Get Rid of Stomach Disorders

Most stomach disorders can be easily avoided simply by regulating the food that we eat. The following are some guidelines that must be followed in order to avoid common stomach problems:-

(i) Keep your diet simple. Always include some green leafy vegetables in the daily food because they provide the necessary fiber for the digestion of food.

(ii) Do not overload your stomach with food. Eat only according to your capacity of digestion.

(iii) It is okay to have heavy food once a while like when you are attending wedding receptions or other social gatherings, but do not overdo it. Drink a glass of soda with a dash of lemon juice in it after a heavy meal. It helps to digest the food.

(iv) Never go to bed immediately after dinner. Go for a walk, or do some of your work. Keep at least a two-hour gap between the completion of dinner and going to bed.

(v) Avoid foods that you cannot digest.

(vi) Red meats like beef, pork and lamb are more difficult to digest by the human body compared to the other foods. Hence, the intake of these foods must be minimized.

(vii) Do not take lots of antibiotics. They build up the heat in the digestive system and retard the digestive process. They can cause severe problems such as constipation, diarrhea, stomachaches, cramps and other such problems.

(viii) Drink plenty of water and other fluids. This is necessary for the proper movement of the bowels and digestion. The intake of water must be almost doubled in the summer season.
