You can apply Selsun(available OTC) shampoo on the affected area overnight. You can take Nizral tablets(one before sleeping).
You should get rid of this in 25 to 30 days.

I tried Tea Tree Oil and it worked wonders a lot better than all the expensive anti fungal creams I have purchased previously.

I've suffered from TV for about 7 years. I've tried the tree tea oil with very little noticeable results. Selsun Blue worked temporarily but the TV just came back about a week later. So I would keep on tyring the SB but it would keep on coming back, ugh.

The best home remedy that's worked for me, quickly and permanently, was a cheap TV treatment solution I found searching Google: "Tinea Versicolor eBook"

I hope this helps you like it has for me.

For fast relief, with results within a week (my experience) ask your pharmacist if you could get a broad spectrum antifungal liquid called: clotrimazole lotion. The active ingredient in it is clotrimazole and one of the names it is sold under is Candid, manufactured byGlenmark pharmaceuticals. It is also not costly.

I am a 24 yr old female and I have had severe tinea versicolor for over 4 years now. Whatstarted out as a few tinu white spots that appeared and disappeared on my shoulders and chest have turned into giant patches that convers my back, stomach, chest, neck, arms, hands, groin, and behind my knees. The patches were bright pink on my untanned skin and pure white when I got some sun. These 'spots' were unresponsive to any medicine or cream given to me by my dermatologist and they covered my body and ruined my self esteem until very recently. I became obsessed with finding a cure for them and tried anything that I could get my hands on, this is what I finally learned.

This is not topical!!! creams and lotions and shampoo will not get rid of tinea versicolor, so stop trying. What you need to do is buy a Candida cleanse and cut sugars out of your diet. At first this will make you feel terrible, but please believe me that your spots are only the top layer of all the yeast that exists in your body. This yeast feeds on sugar, starve it. After your body adjusts to the candistroy pills, purchase organic unrefined coconut oil from your local natural foods store and take 3 tablespoons a day. Organic coconut oil is a natural antifungal, its packed with a whole bunch of good stuff and upon three days of taking it, my entire body is almost rid of these terrible spots. It is hard to swallow at first, but if you are like me, you will swallow a gl[@] of tar every morning if it might get rid of the spots.

I also suggest buying a loofah to exfoliate during every shower. I also use a tea tree soap and neutrogena t-gel shampoo as a scrub in the shower to get the topical fungus. i follow up with a mix of coconut oil, olive oil, and tea tree oil as a lotion/moisturizer.

I don't know if it was a combination of these things or if it was just one but i wanted to let all the people out there searching for some help with this horrible condition, that it appears i beat it and i am pretty sure that the secret is staying away from sugars and taking the coconut oil. good luck!

I wholeheartedly disagree that "it is always easy for oily skin type of people as their surface of the skin in not dry, and so they do not encounter such problems".

I have incredibly oily skin and about 90% of my torso and arms are still covered in tinea versicolor. The home remedies suggested above don't help me at all. In the summer it's constant, no matter what I try. It's not as bad in the winter (I live in the North-West).

I exfoliate and shower frequently, wash sheets often, follow a healthy diet (all meals are home cooked and full of veggies and fruits), drink lots of fluids. Tried the anti-dandruff shampoos and anti-fungal creams to no avail, they just became a bother.

The only things that I found brings me any relief are:
- for the itching, at night I cover the affected area with baby powder before going to bed
- in the winter, I apply Bio Oil to the areas that lose tint (twice a day religiously for 3 months straight at least). I found that the following summer those spots tanned over quite nicely

I will try the coconut oil, but have this to say to others seeking a quick fix: everyone's body is different and everyone will react differently so what works for one, won't necessarily work for you.

And this isn't such a horrible condition. Anorexia is a horrible condition, this may be itchy but it is just cosmetic. Thinking of it as such a horrible condition can leave one feeling desperate and depressed.

wow - lots of good suggestions and heavy opinions :) everyone is different so i will try what i can for me... i didnt even know what this was until recently... thot it was just "sun spots" whatever that is... haha thanks for all the advice people... i heard apple cider vinegar can help too.. i think no sugar will be hardest part for me but a great change i've needed for a while. thanks again.

tea tree oil has worked for me but it is really hard to keep up with the shifting clouds that just want to break out every time i sweat. i cannot believe the fight and it is very tiring... i like natural remedies so i'm going with the coconut oil and apple cider vinegar next, thanks for the suggestions! i wouldn't mind doing the garlic remedy because it's great for blood circulation and really gets me going... except that other people start to mind, lol. i think tea tree oil does work but i really have to scrub myself down all the time with it every time i sweat!!! and that's a lot here in the tropics!!!!!!!!!!!

As for the home remedies; and in response to that person who has tried everything... Diet is a huge thing. I know you said you are eating a lot of fruits and veggies... but are you eating the right kind? Basically everyone should look up the candida diet and use that. No sugar, bread, beer, potatoes, carrots, corn, tortillas, dairy. Yes, goat milk porducts, eggs, all other veggies, quinoa, soem rice, some beans (but not too much). A fast is necessary to get rid of it completely in addition to the topical treatments. Plus LOTS OF RAW GARLIC and I also just started to apple cider vinegar everyday. I am really hoping this will get rid of it completely so I don't have to keep treating my entire life! Keep up the good work! I know it is energy draining. I've only had it for like 4 months and I just want to cut my skin right off.
#16 - someone - 09/28/2010 - 13:29
oh yeah! NO FRUIT!!!!!!!!!!! It is all sugar!
#17 - someone - 09/28/2010 - 13:30
I'm on the side of the fence that says this is not really a big deal. I have TV at the moment, I've had it for about 1 year now and am looking into treating it with Tea Oil soon.

Basically it is a cosmetic annoyance, not a life changer!

I will report back with results of the Tea Oil.

I've had TV for about 15 years off and on. It's definitely a yeast overgrowth that shows up on the skin and the only way to "cure" it is to rebalance your intestinal flora by eating a yeast cleansing diet, lots of probiotics and immune boosting stuff like raw garlic, unrefined raw coconut oil, cultured foods (kefir, live sourkraut, kombucha to name a few). Check out Body Ecology Diet for more info, helped heal my TV and my husband's Crohn's Disease. Anything topical that works is temporary and overuse can cause the yeast to go deeper into the body, making it harder to get rid of. I'm only saying this from experience! Cut the sugar and yeast forming foods/drinks, cure the TV.

Great Advice guys thanks, I've had TV on and off for many years now and the tea tree oil is working wonders for me. I also found the coconut oil in a pill and the tea tree oil in a soap which really works for me. (I travel a lot) Thanks again very helpful.

interesting reading. I have had TV for over 20 years and tried lots of different things. Nothing has worked. For better overall health I changed my diet a few months ago. A raw food shake every day with Kefir (plain because the flavored ones have extra sugar), extra [@] coconut oil, olive oil, chia seeds (yes as in chia pets), ground flaxseed, fresh fruit and other [@]orted stuff. My acne (face and body) has pretty much cleared up and my TV is definitely improving. I agree with some of the other posters - it's an internal issue. start from the inside with diet. I think Kefir is the key. And cutting sugar out of your diet is good for your overall health.
#22 - LDG - 02/08/2011 - 22:46
what ever treatment you have for tinea versicolor that is working for you I advise you to keep on useing it for at least twice a week the rest of your life because if you don't it will return and its very hard to get rid of. I'v suffered with it for 15 years.
#23 - S.L - 02/22/2011 - 02:04
when i was young i got it on my face it was only intil this year that it went to my arms and part of my legs.
It does effect me mentally as it is depressing to see and not be able to take of a cardigan in hotter weather.
Im going to try using Nizoral Shampoo which was purchased on holiday i hope it works but im running out :/. I used it on my face and it has cleared up. If it doesnt work im going to try the cocunut juice thing.
Will keep everyone updated, good luck.

I have had TV for 25+ years and have never really been bothered a great deal by it as I am not too vain in my appearance. However, I am afraid that the prolonged exprosure to TV may cause other health problems if I don't start really trying to cure the problem. I have read that skin diseases are usually the result of some internal problem. I attribute my TV to my diet. I am probably underweight and have been my entire life, so I eat whatever I feel like eating, regardless of its nutritional value (i.e. MacDonald's). I do stay active in work and sports so I remain physically fit.

I appreciate the posts on a proper diet and will try to impliment your suggestions. I have tried antifungal pills and cream as well as shampoos to cure TV, but I am concerned with the internal affects on my liver. I recently have read about the eBook mentioned in one of the posts and plan on trying that treatment. Because I feel that a natural remedy is the only way to go. I will try and keep you all posted. Thanks for the information. Good luck to you all.

Easy-peezy and cheap solution: 2% Miconazole Nitrate [@]l (Yeast Infection Treatment) Cream applied 2x a day for 7 days along with daily exfoliating. I got the store brand 7 day treatment 1.59 oz tube for about 10 bucks.

I have had TV since I was 15 (am 36 now). Over the last year I have had the most sever, dark, itchy spread out case yet. With no insurance to get the expensive pills that clears it up quickly and not being so great with drippy selenium sulfide applications, I did some online research and decided to try the YI cream. Even my BF is amazed at how quickly and dramatically it worked. I don't know why I let myself suffer so long.

i took

I have had it for a couple years and recently it got bad . i thought it would go away in time until i started seeing a bruise looking rash in between my butt cheeks!! went to the dr and all that jazz and they gave me the shampoo which did nothing. after extensive research i started taking 2 things "acidophiles" which is found in yogurt, which also has been known to permanently kill the yeast from tinea . could tinea possibly be a side effect of being lactose intolerant, like getting it easier then most other people? idk thats my theory. i also am taking selenium supplement pills. They recommend people use the selenium shampoo which just sits on ur skin but if u think about it the fight is going on inside ur body and not on top of your skin. now u might not agree to this part but if you have tinea you could be also suffering from a immune deficiency, i am a younger male who has HPV which isnt anything huge BUT it is know as a immune deficiency and i didnt start having it till i got HPV. Another sign that im right is my brother has it also but not my other 4 brothers. so i asked myself wat is the connection between me and him and its that we both got HPV from the same girl (my bro like sloppy seconds) i dought we got tinea from her but our bodys are weak and after my bro got it , it didnt take long for me to develop it.

I wrote that all on a website but forgot to save the rest before it got reviewd but also use

Selenium pill Supplements- helps with yeast infections which is wat tinea is, its a yeast already found in our skin and this helps regulate it :)

this might sound crazy but i want to say it helpd in the role of getting rid of it so also take azo yeast (azole is a fungi killer) kills anything from ringworm to athletes foot

so my list is
acidophiles
selenium
azo yeast

its almost gone so something worked
