What causes vomiting?

Vomiting is caused by many things. Common reasons for vomiting are over eating, drinking too much alcohol, stomach virus, acid reflux, pregnancy or illness. Some other causes of vomiting, although these are not as common, stomach cancer, intestinal blockage, brain tumors, brain injury or appendicitis. Vomiting can also be a side effect to several different medications or from motion sickness. While vomiting is not the most present thing many times it is something happens because your body needs it too. Fighting the urge to vomit can many times prolong the need to vomit, so by going with what your body needs it can be over much quicker.

What are some common symptoms of vomiting

Almost everyone has vomited at least once in their life since being an infant. You can usually tell when you need to or are about to vomit. There are many sure tell signs such as large amounts of saliva being produced in your mouth, becoming dizzy or lightheaded, changes in body or skin temperature, trouble swallowing liquids or food or an elevated heart beat rate. An upset stomach or queasiness can also be a sign of approaching vomit. If you experience any of these symptoms you should quickly get to a place such as a bathroom or a garbage pail although this is not always possible.

Home remedies for vomiting

Diet for vomiting - Some common home remedies for vomiting are used to assist in preventing vomiting before it starts. You can drink a warm or room temperature glass or can of ginger ale. This is used to sooth your stomach in the event it is queasy. You can also drink a glass of ginger tea without sugar. Too much sugar can cause you to vomit, especially if you are already feeling ill. If you feel your stomach issues are related to drinking too much alcohol you can slowly eat slices of plain bread to help your stomach soak up the liquid and settle your stomach.

There are several home remedies for vomiting when you are already ill. Some of the common natural remedy for vomiting are quite simple. By drinking a flat can of room temperature cola you can settle your stomach. To quickly make the cola flat pour it into a glass and stir, this will take most of the carbonation out. Lime juice is also one of the most effect vomiting remedy. Drink a glass of chilled lime juice slowly and this will help your stomach to prevent more vomiting.

Many people want to either starve themselves after vomiting or rush to fill their stomach back up again. Neither of these options is a good option. For the first 12 hours after vomiting you should avoid all solid foods but increase the amount of fluids you are taking in. Drink liquids such as juices, water and other non acid drinks. For the following 12 hours you should slowly start taking in solid foods such as soups, mashed potatoes, rice and oatmeal. Don’t over load your stomach but eat until the feeling of hunger is gone.

Vomiting is common so there is no need to seek medical attention right away unless you have an illness or are taking medication that suggests you should. If you’re vomiting due to a common reason such as over eating, alcohol, cold or stomach flu then many times there is no need for any medical attention. If the vomiting persist or last for long periods of time you should seek medical attention right away. If you become dehydrated it is very important to seek medical attention. Just like with any other illness if you feel you need to seek medical attention, do so it is better to be safe than sorry later. This is one of the effective vomiting treatment.
