Home Remedies for Canker Sores

Canker sores

Canker sores are the common cause of mouth sores. These canker sores are also called as Aphthous Stomatitis. They cause absolute discomfort while talking as well as eating. Canker sores are not contagious. Canker sores occur in the interior side of the mouth on the soft tissues. Canker sores are the small ulcers that appear on the mouth lining. Generally, these are very sensitive and painful. Canker sores occur regardless of age and also can reappear at any stage of life.

Symptoms of canker sores are painful sores inside the mouth, to be more specific on the tongue. A feeling of burning sensation is felt before the sores reappear. These sores are small measuring less than 10mm and red in color. When the sores burst, a yellow or white coating form over it and it turns to be red in color. Few other symptoms of canker sores are swollen lymph nodes, fever and listlessness. The cause of canker sores in yet unknown. It is believed that canker sores cause due to eating rough food such as chips, nuts, etc or food allergies, menstrual period. Other significant reasons for causing canker stores is believed to be deficiency of iron, vitamin B12, zinc, folic acid, trauma, bacterial infection, hormonal disorder and heredity.

Home remedies for Canker sores

Rinsing mouth with aloe juice very often gives a great relief. Similarly, placing some alum twice in a day on the canker sores gives substantial relief. Alum relieves the pain to a great extent and heals it as well quickly. Baking powder can be applied in the powder or paste form. This reduces the bacteria present in the mouth and is one of the best home remedy for canker sores.

Rinsing mouth using mouth wash several times in a day works effectively. This is prepared by adding baking soda in warm water. Preparing a mouth wash with grape fruit seed extract and water is also effective when you rinse once a day. Hydrogen peroxide combined with water is also an excellent mouth wash. Onion is an excellent canker sores treatment. Applying raw onions on the canker sores and then rinsing mouth with plum juice brings great relief. In case the sore is very bad, applying the juice on the sore turns to be of great relief.

Eating papaya fruit or at least chewing fresh leaves of papaya tree is very beneficial in curing canker sores. In cases of non-availability, taking papaya tablets is also a best alternative. Gargle with a solution made from soda, salt and warm water. Applying tea tree oil on the canker sores is also an exclusive canker sores remedy. Avoid eating as well as chewing at a time. Regularly brushing your teeth after meals is essential to avoid canker sores. Applying ice completely releases the pain of canker sores. Antiseptic creams, lotions, and various mouthwashes are readily available at the pharmacy to relieve canker sore pain.

Additional home remedies for Canker sores:

Drinking cranberry juice between meals is a pain reliever as well as canker sore healer. Mixing honey with turmeric and applying it can prove to be an essential natural remedy for canker sores. Honey is a universal product, suitable for almost all the ailments and works wonders on canker sores as well. Dampen tea bags placed on canker sores are of great effect as the tannic acid in the tea helps in reducing the canker sores. Ice is of great relief as it only makes you feel better.

Spices such as cayenne desensitize temporarily the nerves that cause pain and relieve canker sore pain. This is very useful for people who suffer from mouth sores after radiation or chemotherapy. Balancing your food with sufficient vitamins and minerals will keep canker sores at a distance. Aloe juice extracted from the internal portion of the leaf just smeared over the canker sore also gives a great relief in reducing canker sores. This is one of the effective diet for canker sores.

There are chances that canker sores can be painful, but the simple home remedies can relive you of the discomfort and keeps you healthy.
