Home Remedies for Flatulence

The thought of flatulence leaves many embarrassed even though it is a perfectly normal body function. Gas is just a way of the body to get rid of the nasty air that has somehow found its way into your stomach and intestines. The problem is not the gas itself but the sound and odor it brings. Just when you least expect it or want it, the gas comes and there is no escape. How embarrassing! The smell that flatulence makes is formed in the intestines and is only a 1% mixture. The nose of the human picks up on that smell and can detect it across the room.

The gas may only be 1% but our noses can perceive smells smaller than that. The embarrassment is not the only thing that hurts. The flatulence can cause the stomach to have severe to moderate pain. The average human expels gas up to twenty times each day and as little as eight times. Some individuals experience more episodes depending on the diet and the balance they have in their body. Those who do not move around or for women who are pregnant or menstruating, the gas will be greater. High fiber and carbs in a diet will also make one more gassy.

Foods That Offend

The obvious thing to avoid if you do not want gas is the almighty bean. They are notorious for causing gas. Broccoli and corn can also play their own parts in the grand scheme of upsetting the balance in your stomach. There are many more food items that are not thought of as offensive gas causing agents but, you might be eating too much of them each day. It is said that an apple each day may keep doctors away but not the gas. Apricots, bananas, bran products, brussel sprouts, cauliflower, cabbage, cream, cucumbers, fruits in the citrus family and so on all cause flatulence in excess. Stay away from these foods especially if you have an important event in the next day after eating them.

What To Do About The Problems

Since flatulence is never really a serious medical condition, there are some special home remedies for flatulence that can be used. The first of the home remedies for flatulence is the simplest. Try taking a good risk in a rocking chair. This is said to be a miracle worker when it comes to flatulence that hurts from c-sections. Rocking motions get the nervous system moving at a faster rate and push on the stomach area. The gas is expelled much faster than if you are not moving. The rocking motion must be hard to get anything out of it. Peppermint tea is another one of the best home remedies for flatulence. Other tea types include anise tea, spearmint tea, and caraway tea. Each of these have oils in them that soothe the stomach. You can even try spearmint or peppermint candy to do the trick also.

Figuring Out The Cause

Once you find the cause of the excess flatulence, you can find the exact choice for home remedies for flatulence that will work best. If you eat a lot of citrus fruit each day and are experiencing gas in excess, you might want to change or reduce that food. It may take you awhile to figure out what exactly is wrong. You might need to keep a food journal so you know what you have eaten and how gassy you were from it. Antacid is also handy for those occasions when the choice of foods can not be avoided and gas is expected to occur. Once you narrow it down, you can begin to eliminate those foods and only eat them when you have nowhere else to go. You will be glad ans those around you will also appreciate the kindness you are showing them by not flatulating in the crowd.
