Home Remedies for Jaundice

Jaundice Therapy at Home

Jaundice is a liver disease, which makes the patient’s skin become a yellowish sheen. The whites of the eye have the same appearance. The high level of bilirubin in the body is the main reason for such affliction. This situation arises when the bile duct is obstructed. In the presence on an impediment in the bile duct, the function of the bile- producing liver cells is affected. Bile is a vital fluid produced by the liver and is necessary in digestion, which in turn would facilitate proper nutrition. The amount of gases will increase if the bile cannot get into the intestines. Jaundice is the most common of all liver diseases.

Causes of Jaundice

Jaundice is also an effect of hemolytic anemia, acute hepatitis, pancreatic cancer, alcoholic liver disease and of course the blockage in the bile ducts. A wide range of manifestations are exhibited by a person suffering from jaundice including headache, weakness, loss of appetite, fever, severe constipation, nausea, and the yellowish color of the skin, eyes, tongue, and urine. There might also be some discomfort in the area where the liver is located. Severe itching might also be experienced in the case of obstructive jaundice.

Home Remedies for Jaundice

Jaundice can be treated with some home remedies for Jaundice such as the use of bitter luffa. Bitter luffa can produce a juice when it is pounded and squeezed through a cloth. The resulting liquid shall then be placed on one’s palm and brought to the nose causing an outflow yellowish liquid matters. Once a large amount is drained and gotten rid of, the patient will be greatly relieved. However, some might feel ensuing side effects such as giddiness, migraine and fever due to the potency of bitter luffa thus not recommended for sensitive patients. In the absence of green bitter luffa juice, one can also make use of two –three drops of the liquid produced if its dry crust is steeped in water for a night. One can also procure the seeds of bitter luffa and use it after rubbing them in water as jaundice home remedy.

One can make use of the liquid from pulverized and then strained radish leaves. The patient should consume half a liter of the juice daily for eight to ten days to facilitate bowel movements and increase one’s appetite. A 60 ml daily dose of juice from pigeon pea leaves is also an effective jaundice remedy. The same goes for an early morning glass of tomato mixed with a pinch of salt and pepper.

Another effective natural remedy for jaundice is made by boiling 15 gm of dry leaves of snake gourd in 250 ml water. The patient will ingest 30-60 ml of the resulting liquid mixed with a decoction from corianders seeds boiled in half a liter of water until the mixture is reduced to one third of the original quantity.

A daily dose of mixture of a glass of sugarcane juice and one-half of lime can also help in the treatment of jaundice. Extreme precaution should be taken in patients with low resistance. Hygienic preparation of the mixture should also be ensured. Another home remedy, which can be prepared, is that of barley boiled and simmered in three liters water for three hours. This is one of the useful jaundice cure.

One-fourth teaspoon of pulverized bark or 2-4 ml of the fluidextract intake of Berberis vultaris, commonly known as jaundice berry, several times a day is also beneficial. A mixture of eight kernel almonds, five small cardamoms, and two dried dates steeped in water overnight, shelled the following day and rubbed with a paste, mixed with 50 grams of sugar and 50 grams of butter ca n also be given to the person afflicted with jaundice. This is one of the best jaundice treatment.

A person with jaundice can also make use of a jaundice-friendly diet by having a juice-fast for a week. Then introduce fruits by eating an interval of five hours for the next three to five days. After that, one can resume eating a light carbo diet with plenty of fruits and vegetables taking care to avoid fats, legumes and pulses, which might ferment in the lower parts of the intestines. To hasten recovery, one should also have enough rest. This is one of the effective diet for jaundice.
