One of the most common home remedies for snoring is to lose weight. If you have problems with snoring, you need to try to maintain a normal weight. In order to lose weight, you are going to have to follow a proper diet and you are also going to have to exercise.

Smoking can cause an increase in the nasal congestion and it can increase the mucous in your throat. The more effectual way of bringing air into the lungs is breathing through the nose, not the mouth.

Alcohol use can result in sleep apnea or snoring because it causing relaxation in the soft muscles and tissues that are in the throat. Another home remedy that you should consider is sleeping on your side. If you sleep on your side, you will make the snoring sound a little lighter.

Causes of Snoring

There are three main causes of snoring: muscle tone of the tongue, blockage of airway and age as well as other factors. During the time that you are sleeping, you should avoid lying on your back because your tongue can fall back into your throat and as a result it can block your airway which makes you more likely to snore. In children, the primary cause of snoring is enlarged adenoids and tonsils. Age can also play a role in snoring. People that are older tend to snore more because of the fact that muscle tones decrease with age. Some other factors that are known to aggravate snoring include; certain medications, sheer physical exhaustion and alcoholic beverages.
