Oily Skin

Oily Skin

People who have oily skin may be fed up of their greasy, shiny and wearisome appearance but the flip side of this skin is that it ages at a slower rate than other skin types. There is no lasting cure for oily skin and you have to take proper care to maintain your looks. The coarse pores of the oily skin result in the formation of pimples, blemishes and blackheads. People with combination skin also contain oily parts, especially on forehead, nose and chin.

The problem of the oily skin usually begins after puberty and persists long. Some even face the problem for lifetime. Heredity too plays a key role and you might get oily skin because of your ancestors. Similarly, oil production is energized by hormone production. Hence, anything that stimulates hormones to fluctuate can cause skin to become oily. Women generally notice hormonal fluctuation ether during pregnancy or at the start of each menstrual cycle. And so do women taking certain types of birth control pills.

Oily skin is the result of excessive production of sebum. Too much sebum produces surface oiliness, clogs pores, provides nourishment to bacteria that live upon the skin and contributes to acne flare-ups. Stress can also increase secretion of oil glands. And sometimes application of wrong cosmetics can aggravate an otherwise mild case of oily skin.

There’s a common misconception that you can’t wear make-up while using oil control products. But this is not true. You can use make-ups labeled oil-free or “non-comedogenic”.
