Condylomata
Condylomata is a type of skin disorder that actually occurs in the form of warts and targets the genital areas of humans. Since this disease is caused due to viral infection, the people whose genital areas remain damp are its soft targets because such conditions provide fast breeding ground to viruses to multiply rapidly. Normally, an adult gets infected by this disorder when he/she comes in sexual contact with the other adult. However, children too are prone to this type of disease in spite of no sexual contact, but it happens rarely. Although, this is not a life-threatening complication, however it causes utter discomfort to an individual suffering from it. If this disorder is not treated timely then an individual, whether male or female, is likely to have cancer in the genital areas. Treatment of condylomata is either done through oral or topical medication when an individual reaches to the doctor during the initial stage or else operation is advised.
Symptoms and Causes of Condylomata
You will hardly see any apparent signs of condylomata in the genital areas except the formation of too many small rounded protuberances like warts that sometimes look like zits or even lumps. Since the moistness causes this disorder hence an infected person may sometime experience severe itching sensation in the genital area. Another common symptom you can see is sudden occurrence of bleeding in your genitals when you make sexual relation with your partner.
An infected person won’t see the common signs of condylomata immediately as they usually take at least a fortnight or even a month to become conspicuous. In females, this complication can begin from vagina and can spread to the anus very rapidly. Similarly, the most infected genital organ of the males is penis and sometimes the infection diffuses down in the skin near anus. Condylomata spreads aggressively in those humans who keep on changing sexual partners and do not use condoms while having sex. Similarly, if you are having only one partner and if he/she is infected with condylomata, then sexual relation between both of you for over 90 days can result into occurrence of this complication.
Diagnosis and Treatment of Condylomata
The basic method to detect condylomata is to wash the infected areas with the mop using an ethanoic acid as a result of which the whitish flecks will become apparent on the skin of the genital area. Another method to confirm that you are suffering from condylomata is to take out a specimen of infected area, especially from cervical part. In addition, the doctor may like to conduct some specific cancer detecting tests to ensure that condylomata has not led to any genital cancer.
If an infected person has only one sexual partner, then the doctor would advise that both should take treatment to completely eliminate the complication. If the disease is at initial stage then it responds excellently to the treatment methods and one gets cured very quickly. Therefore, the doctor usually suggests topical treatment for milder cases like application of specific creams on then infected areas. However, if an infected individual is female and pregnant, the doctor would avoid suggesting the ointments that may cause any side effect to her. The disease can also be eliminated through cryosurgery, laser therapy or electrocautery. In case, condylomata has reached in advanced stage then the doctor would advise the patient to undergo operation for permanent relief.
Prevention
The easiest way to keep the condylomata at bay is to abstain from having more than one sexual partner.
Similarly, there are both male and female condoms available in different types and qualities that can be used by the respective sexes during intercourse to prevent transmission of HPV virus causing condylomata.
A preventive vaccine called Gardasil can also be injected to the females but at young age. Your doctor will tell you whether your age is suitable for the vaccine or not.
Those who have single sexual partner, especially who are married, and if one of you are infected by condylomata then abstain from sex unless complete treatment of the complication.
