Pruritis

Pruritis

Pruritis, or more commonly known as pruritus, is nothing but an intense itching sensation in your body. It may cause due to various reasons including allergies, infection, lymphoma or jaundice etc. Itching can occur in your body anytime and anywhere and if it prolongs, you will surely feel irritated. The more you itch, the more you feel relaxed but in doing so, you damage your skin in that particular area. People suffering from pruritis neither gets relief in the day time nor at night while sleeping as desire to itch continuously keeps on galling them. There is no particular age-group for having skin disorder like pruritis and it can occur to anyone who suffers from itching problem.

There are mainly two types of pruritis - pruritis ani and pruritis vulvae. Where pruritis ani can be caused due to chronic itching of the skin around the anus, pruritis vulvae can happen because of persistent itching of the external female genitalia. Males can be affected by pruritis ani while females are prone to both the types of pruritis.

Pruritis Causes

There are several reasons that may cause pruritis but the most significant one could be moisture left around the anus and vulva after cleaning or due to perspiration. Also the type of food and drinks you consume in your daily life could play vital role in causing severe itching problem followed by occurrence of pruritis. Another reason for this skin disorder could be hormonal imbalance due to some disease like diabetes or during pregnancy. Pruritis can also occur if an individual is suffering from constipation, anal diseases like piles, kidney related problems, deficiency of red blood cells, poor digestive system or weak liver system.

Pruritis Symptoms

The prominent pruritis symptoms of pruritis are severe itching sensation and breathing problem as if an individual is suffering from asthma. Sometimes, a sudden bulge in the face and throat area of a person appears due to continuous itching sensation. Even the mental status of a person like frustration and tension can be the signs of pruritis.

How to Treat Pruritis

Whenever you come across the symptoms of pruritis, it is recommended to immeidatly consult your doctor who will tell you the effective methods to get rid of pruritis. Sometimes treatment without prescription aggravates the problem and may even cause some severe infection.

However, the doctor first tries to treat pruritis by reducing its burning sensation and may ask the patient to apply some medicated cream topically. He may also prescribe some ointment or gel to apply for a certain period for better result. Since moisture is the major reason for occurrence of pruritis, you should clean both anus and vulva properly followed by drying these areas completely to avoid any chance of dampness left behind. You can use tepid water to thoroughly clean the affected areas. Frequent use of soap as well as antiseptics in the affected areas could cause soreness. After passing stool, do not use toilet paper to clean your anal portion but instead prefer pads that completely make the area dry.

The fabric you wear could also lead to pruritis so it is advisable to wear such fabrics that do not cause allergy and itching sensation in your body. Prefer slightly loose fitting cotton undergarments instead of synthetic fabrics. Another significant factor is diet that should not only be balanced and but must also contain large amount of vitamins and proteins. This ensures proper digestion and easy discharging of stools. Consumption of junk foods as well as hot and spicy foods can cause inflammation and itching sensation. Even there are beverages like alcohol that may worsen the problem of pruritis.

There are anesthetics which also help in giving you relief from itching sensation but they also carry side effects like allergies. Hence, first ask your physician before using these anesthetics. These anesthetics could be applied in the outer portion of anus and vulva. This is one of the useful method of pruritis cure.
