Thrombophlebitis Deep Venous

Thrombophlebitis Deep Venous

Clotting of blood when your get bruised or cut is normal but when such clotting happens inside the body, it may lead to some serious problem. Thrombophlebitis deep venous is one such disorder that occurs when the blood clot takes place in the deeper veins of anyone’s legs. In addition, the affected person experiences inflammation in veins. Sometimes this complication can occur in the deep veins of one’s thighs or even in pelvic region. This problem occurs in both males and females but mostly after 40 years of age.

Normally thrombophlebitis deep venous does not pose any threat but if the clotted blood bursts forth and reaches to lungs, then the disorder can be fatal because one may feel unable to breath properly. This condition is known as pulmonic intercalation. On the other hand, the lungs would not be affected by the clotted blood if the clotting takes place in veins that are near the skin’s surface.

Symptoms

There is no specific or evident sign of thrombophlebitis deep venous if you are affected by this complication. However, the most common symptoms could be pain and inflammation accompanied by swelling in the affected areas. Sometimes, you find your feet swollen owing to this disorder. The affected parts also feel warm when touched. In case the blood clot reaches to the lungs then you may feel pain in your chest because of severe breathing problem. You may also feel woozy and anxious. Some people also find blood in cough.

Causes

If the normal flow of your blood alters due to some reason or an injury occurs in the inner parts of the blood vessels then you are most likely to have thrombophlebitis deep venous. Too much coagulation of blood can also be the reason for occurrence of the complication.

The other factors that may cause the disease are:

When a person sits in a same position for a stretched duration either in work or while traveling.

When one is bedridden with no or little body movements.

If one undergoes any major operation like bypass surgery or sustains severe bone injuries in the lower half of the body.

If one is overweight, had recently survived from coronary failure or suffering from dangerous disease like cancer.

Dwelling or having long stint in high altitude areas.

If one takes oral contraceptive pills regularly.

If blood clotting problem is in heredity.

Those suffering from thrombophlebitis deep venous in one leg can also have it in the other leg.

Diagnosis

The doctor will conduct a host of test to deduce that an individual is suffering from thrombophlebitis deep venous. To find out the blood clotting in the deep veins, the doctor may advise to either have ultrasonography, computed axial tomography or magnetic resonance imaging of the legs. The doctor will also take out the sample of the blood to examine the reasons of excessive coagulation of blood.

Treatment

The milder cases of thrombophlebitis deep venous like blood clotting in veins near skin’s surface can sometimes get cured itself after certain period. However, if the clot occurs in the deep veins or if there is any sign of pulmonic intercalation, then the doctor will have to take significant steps to treat the complication as soon as possible. The doctor will first give some pain relievers to the affected person to get rid of severe pain. Medicines to solve the problem of inflammation can also be given. If an infection occurs in the affected area, the doctor will advise to take a course of antibiotics. And to hamper any new blood clot, decoagulants are given to the affected person.

Prevention

Those who are facing problem of obesity should shed weight.

Take regular breaks to remain mobile if your have long duration of table-work at office.

Sleep in an inclined position keeping your legs slightly elevated.

Don’t take oral contraceptives regularly.

Those who are given instructions to take complete bed rest after surgery are also asked to remain active by taking a little walk a couple of times a day to recover fast. Hence, follow the instructions of the doctor.
