Zinc oxide is a very effective agent to relieve chafing.

Olive oil is rich in zinc oxide too. It speeds up the healing process. To use it for your skin, take a warm bath. Rub some olive oil onto your palm and gently apply it on the infected areas. It reduces the burning sensation. Repeat this a few times a day. If you do not have olive oil, you could use coconut oil as a substitute.

2. Oatmeal

Oatmeal has anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant and healing properties. It helps in cleaning the skin and moisturizing it. One way to use oatmeal is to make an oatmeal bath. Fill your tub with lukewarm water. Add a cup of oatmeal and let it settle for a while. Soak yourself in the tub for around twenty minutes. Let your skin absorb the oatmeal.


Do not scrub your skin while in the bath. If there’s any severe area that you need to treat, just dab on extra oatmeal on that spot. Wash off with plain water after the bath and pat your skin dry. Do this everyday. Another way is to make an oatmeal paste. Mix it with olive oil and apply on the affected regions. Leave it on for half an hour before washing it off. If you do not have olive oil, you could just grind some oatmeal, mix it with water and then apply it. Repeat this thrice a day.

Just soak a few tea bags in your bath and enjoy a warm bath. You could also use chamomile oil for the bath. If you have the lotion, then it is even better. Rub it on the affected regions.

As mentioned earlier, chafing becomes worse when you start sweating. It irritates the affected region and the burning becomes excessive. This happens because your sweat contains agents that cause even more irritation to the skin. Using cornstarch on the affected region helps in absorbing all the moisture, thus freeing your skin of sweat.


It dries your skin and also decreases friction. To use cornstarch on your skin, clean the affected region with lukewarm water and an antiseptic soap. Dry it and then gently sprinkle some cornstarch on it. Repeat this around two or three times every day to see effective results. Make sure that you do not do this while your skin is still wet as it might only worsen the condition by leading to fungal infections.
